Different Types Of Glass

          Monolithic / Float Glass

Float glass is a sheet of glass made by floating molten glass on a bed of tin metal.

This method produces sheets of uniform thicknesses of glass and a very flat surface.

Unfortunatley, this type of glass offers very little insulating qualities besides shelter from the rain. When broken, float glass can be dangerous and can cause injury to humans and property. This is known as an economy grade glass.

Klingshield window film can be applied to turn this ordinary glass into safety and sun control glass.

          Toughened Safety Glass

Toughened Safety Glass, also known as Armourplate Glass, is a process whereby ordinary float glass is subjected to a heating and cooling process which makes the glass five times stronger.

Toughened Safety Glass guarantees a high level of structural strength and resistance to thermal shock,  low impact and wind loading. This type of glass is normally used for sliding doors to absorb human impact as well as for side windows of cars. When subjected to a smash and grab attack, this glass breaks into small particals and is not lethal, however it's insufficient for this type of attack.

Please note: The surface of this glass is also not as hard wearing as ordinary glass.

Toughened Safety Glass is available in clear, tinted or coated glass.

Klingshield safety film is often used for extra strength.

          Laminated Safety Glass

Laminated Glass is manufactured by sandwiching two pieces of clear float glass together with a vinyl inter-layer (PVB- Poly Vinyl Butyral) in the middle. Laminated Glass is known as a security glass and is significantly difficult to penetrate. It is up to ten times stronger than Monollthic Glass when it comes to penetration resistance.

Other benefits include noise reduction as well as a reduction in UV radiation.

Different sizes and thicknesses are available and will depend on the application and design load.

          Reflective or Coated Glass

Reflective or coated glass is created by depositing a thin metal coating onto the surface of the glass thereby adding specific properties like glare reduction, increase in solar energy, ellimination. These products are also available in different colours, offering other

aesthetically appealing surfaces and properties.

Reflective coatings are available in a range of densites to suit specific requirements.

Laminated Saferty Glass In Various Colours

Tinted glass, laminated together, offers a combination product where glare control and safety is required. This product can also be used for glass shelving and office partioning due to it's aeshetic appearence.

Laminated safety glass, in various colours is available in various sizes and thicknesses.

Double Glazing or Sealed Insulating Glass Units

These units are manufactured by bonding two or more panes of glass, separated by a spacer, to create a hermetically sealed space.  The heat loss or gain through these units is reduced by up to 66% when compared to conventional single glazing. These units offer excellent insulating properties by retaining heat inside buildings during the winter months. It is also know as Low e Glazing.

           Smart Glass

Smart Glass, also known as Low e Glazing, (Low Emissity Glass) and is designed to offer insulating properties as well as excellent solar control properties all in one product. Various sizes and thicknesses are available depending on the application and design load. These products are coated with specialized coatings. Smart glass is available in the following various colours:

neutral, green, bronze, grey, blue and aqua marine.

This product complies with N.B.R, SANS10400 Part XA and SANS2014 standards.

           Sun Shield Glass

Sun Shield Glass provides high solar control properties and is availabe in a number of colours. Sun Shield is a laminated Solar control product with a reflective coating incorporated within the custom manufacture. Sun Shield comes in various colours and offers glare reduction in buildings and reduced energy cost due to its high solar control properties.

This product also offers noise reduction properties and is available in light transmission densitites:

                90%solar control reduction

                80%  solar controlreduction

                70% solar control reduction

Sun Shield complies with safety glass standards SANS1263 Part 1 and Part 2. Performance data available on request.
